Have a look at the FileOpen function in the Help file and look at the example below, you'll see (as 69255 mentioned) that certain requirements are missing. Also try to create variables that are a little more descriptive e.g. you're using $input for not only the file path but also the handle returned by FileOpen. Now it might not make a huge difference but in terms of reading it's easier to denote what variable comes from where and error checking is important too.
