You need to cancel .. with "previous" subdir recursively from the innermost occurence and ignore . subpathes: C:aaabbb..ccc.....alpha..... --> C: Doable but not completely obvious. Also, be aware that Windows allows forward slashes as well in most file/path functions. IMVHO you'd be safer to use the right official function(s) to normalize the pathes before storing them in the DB and normalize live values before compare.
