Immunet Protect declaring SciTE4AutoIt3.exe a virus

Recommended Posts

Immunet declared the download as quarantined for the following reason: W32.SPERO.Startpage.07.06.11. Of course, I have no way to know if it's correct or not. Based on a google search, a number of app downloads run into this problem. I think Immunet folks would fix this issue right away if informed. So this is just an FYI that it happened.

Seems like that software is known for a lot of false positives, I wouldn't give it any credence.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I tried to restore the .exe within Immunet and while it said it was restored, I found that it was still in a renamed state so I exited Immunet and cleared my Firefox download history as well as my download folder. I tried downloading the SciTE4AutoIt3.exe again and for some reason, Firefox downloads it but then it disables the open/install options. I tried multiple times. I'll chalk it up to a "wonky state problem" of some kind. Anyway, I realized that the SciTE editor was already installed along with AutoIt so I don't even need to download it. Just passing along how this story is ending.

Is it just a coincidence that Immunet, Firefox, and now Chrome refuse to install that exe. I also find this now when I try to install it. I think something may actually be wrong with that binary.

The webpage at http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/scite/download/SciTE4AutoIt3.exe might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

Error 2 (net::ERR_FAILED): Unknown error.

No one is forcing you to download or install any of the software here. If you are unhappy, just walk away - after all you paid nothing for it. ;)

All I can say is that I have installed the new AutoIt and SciTE versions and I have had no problems and no alerts - just as I would expect. :)

I don't think Firefox, or chrome should be installing it, you should double click the binary from within its download

folder and installs itself. Else probably that software you are banging on about has blocked it.

What a silly thing to say. Should I not bring up issues as I come across them? Troll much?

The browser downloads it and you launch the installer from whatever downloaded UI they provide.... right? Both browsers are preventing me from launching the download and both do so without error or warnings. It's odd. A good chance this can be on my end and caused by lingering Immunet processes or something. I'll try a reboot.
