guinness, this a great script, was able to integrate very easily.  I immediately saw what I would want from it as well.  Do you have any ideas on how to make this a more secure deletion?  I'm not a developer, just a tinkerer.  My immediate thought was prior to deletion I would try to create an empty file that would overwrite the script file.  I have no idea how to write that into a batch though.  Then, I thought, will an empty file overwriting do anything anyway?  I know most secure deletion programs overwrite with bogus data.  So would I need to generate a file large enough to overwrite the original?  Now, I'm thinking, do I even know how overwrite works?  Does it actually overwrite on the disk or does it just overwrite in the file system?  Overwriting in the file system would be secure enough for my purposes though.

So I guess my question is, does it make sense to attempt this or is it a waste of my time?

Firstly this is out of scope for the UDF, secondly the whole reason this works is because a batch script is generated which waits for the process to terminate before deleting it. Therefore if you can find a way to securely delete a file using batch commands, then great or you will have to create a separate Au3 script to do this (search the forum for secure deletion). Honestly if you're just a tinkerer, then I really would advise not to delve too deep into this subject.

Hey @guinness since Windows 10 in incorporating Bash, and since Bash can delete the file it's currently running. Doesn't that provide a new way to leave no traces behind?

My UDFs are generally for me. If they aren't updated for a while, it means I'm not using them myself. As soon as I start using them again, they'll get updated.

Actually,  researching this I found that thanks to recently discovered GOTO functionality discovered by the Russians. (I kid you not)

A batch file will delete itself if you put 

(goto) 2>nul & del "%~f0"

As the last line, be sure to put GOTO in parenthesis. Potentially more reliably than DEL %0

Wheres the bash fun tho?  So far finding and removing duplicate files is the only thing it does substantially better (other than ssh).  _selfdeleting and/or modifying windows files from the linux sub seems like those operations have lots of promise. 

  

FileWrite($bashscript , "truncate -s 0 " & $sOutDir)

fails with 'cannot open file for writing'

I don't get off work for another 4 hours so I can't test in the Win/Bash environment

My UDFs are generally for me. If they aren't updated for a while, it means I'm not using them myself. As soon as I start using them again, they'll get updated.

Boththose and argumentum, I'm glad both of you are trying to solve the issues I have identified in this post:  

However both of you are missing sir guiness's geniousry and a must have about his function:
