1 - What are the limits (size of text, multi-dimensional arrays)?

I have tested with ~20 mb of binary data (files transfer), working fine, but with big files (100+ mb) i got "Error allocating memory" (from AutoIt!).

And as for the arrays, autoit supports only a total of 16 million array elements, and the object thrown an error when we trying to put 15 millions elements, but 10 mil. is fine (i managed to read the last element from this big array), although it's taking few moments to put and get the data.

2 - Through the network?

I am not sure, didn't tested, but i think there is shouldn't be any problems.

3 - Windows version?

Win 2000+.

How do you avoid 2 applications trying to change the same value at the same time? Or is it up the the script writer to ensure that doesn't happen?

Could you post here what is the error message you are getting?

I both tried a compiled an non compiled test. Both of them give errors ?

It's gives the error when you run the first script (sender) or the second (reciever)?

What is the persistency (if that's a word) of the data? Or should I say of the container? Does it exist only as long as a running script has it open? Until a shutdown? Or does it survive a reboot?

Well, as i tested it, it seems that until you close the container (_Container_Close($oContainer)), or until the explorer is restarted (ProcessClose("Explorer.exe")). Edited March 29, 2011 by MrCreatoR

Btw, UDF is leaking because it never closes created windows. It just losses the reference by setting StatusText property to empty string.

I also wouldn't kill the error handler in the close function, in case you're dealing with multiple containers. Additionally, in the open function you'll want to do similar:

If Not ObjEvent("AutoIt.Error") Then $oContainer_COMErr = ObjEvent("AutoIt.Error", "__Container_COMErrHandler")

so you don't clobber anyone's existing error handlers.

Ideally, you'd want to check all functions with IsObj() to avoid errors.

I agree, but the question is, how those windows created initialy? when i use ObjGet?

And also, again about the closing, should i force the closing of container on autoit exit?

1) The windows are created after ObjGet().

2) No. The containers can exist after the application has closed, which could be quite useful. So I definitely wouldn't force them closed. Especially since a user could create many containers.

We intercepted a COM Error!

err.description is:

err.windescription: Unspecified error

err.number is: 80020009

err.Iastdllerror is: 0

err.scriptline is: 52

err.source is:

err.helpfile is:

err.helpcontext is: 0

Which might mean Object creation failed ?!

Cannot register shdocvw.dll. No Ordinal entry point found ?

Nevertheless I use a regular Windows 7 x64 English version.

Must be missing some components, damn !?

Through the network does not work, I tested on a virtual machine and in a real network (using two laptops).

I tried using: \.\storage and \VirtualPC\storage, but neither worked...

I'm starting to think you might be... if you look at the UDF, line 52 is the $oShellWindows object. It hasn't event tried to create the container yet. Do you have explorer.exe running? Are you using some shell modification or strict security software?

Small update:

v1.1

* Added IE version verification. Apparently this library requierd IE 7 (and windows 2000+).

* Better errors handling.

I really like this method in that it doesn't spawn any new processes. However in the absence of IE7, I think you should be able to do this to create the container:

$oContainer = ObjCreate("InternetExplorer.Application")
    $oContainer.StatusBar = True ; IMPORTANT!!
    $oContainer.StatusText = $sName

The downside is that it creates new IE processes... however it works just the same.

Or use ObjGet with the CLSID:

My copy has no brackets after StatusText, although if I add them it still works.

You would think (I would think) that it should be

$oContainer.SetStatusText($sName)

but that causes an error for me.

StatusText is read/write property, it's not a method (meaning no brackets but "=")

StatusText only works if the StatusBar is visible. So try

$object.StatusBar = True

before getting/setting the StatusText propery.
