WesW Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 Really? What was the problem? BrewManNH's Example seemed pretty helpful.Yep, you guys are great and very helpful... The people (A few co’ workers) that are going to use this asked if they can have an install button for each app instead of a checkbox. They think the checkbox design will be confusing. Crazy huh? Again, Thanks for the support and help.
Chimaera Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Maybe have a look at the Wiki Entry to get accustomed with Arrays. Did my Example eventually solve your problem? You didn't make it clear Lol arrays make about as much sense to me as quantum physics.I couldnt say whether its solved but its working and not showing errors so i guess soThx for the help m8@WesW dont forget you can tie more than one install to a button so they could have a multi install for them and checkboxes for the rest If Ive just helped you ... miracles do happen. guinness Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) Lol arrays make about as much sense to me as quantum physics. In time you will understand them. First time I encountered an Array was a little hard to understand. If that Wiki Entry by Melba23 was written when I first started with AutoIt it would have been a whole lot simple. My advice, just go through the Example Forum looking at Examples and de-constructing them, this is how I personally learnt (might not be for everyone else.) A good start would be Melba23's Examples and then from there you can work up to Yashied's Edited March 8, 2011 by guinness UDF List: _AdapterConnections() • _AlwaysRun() • _AppMon() • _AppMonEx() • _ArrayFilter/_ArrayReduce • _BinaryBin() • _CheckMsgBox() • _CmdLineRaw() • _ContextMenu() • _ConvertLHWebColor()/_ConvertSHWebColor() • _DesktopDimensions() • _DisplayPassword() • _DotNet_Load()/_DotNet_Unload() • _Fibonacci() • _FileCompare() • _FileCompareContents() • _FileNameByHandle() • _FilePrefix/SRE() • _FindInFile() • _GetBackgroundColor()/_SetBackgroundColor() • _GetConrolID() • _GetCtrlClass() • _GetDirectoryFormat() • _GetDriveMediaType() • _GetFilename()/_GetFilenameExt() • _GetHardwareID() • _GetIP() • _GetIP_Country() • _GetOSLanguage() • _GetSavedSource() • _GetStringSize() • _GetSystemPaths() • _GetURLImage() • _GIFImage() • _GoogleWeather() • _GUICtrlCreateGroup() • _GUICtrlListBox_CreateArray() • _GUICtrlListView_CreateArray() • _GUICtrlListView_SaveCSV() • _GUICtrlListView_SaveHTML() • _GUICtrlListView_SaveTxt() • _GUICtrlListView_SaveXML() • _GUICtrlMenu_Recent() • _GUICtrlMenu_SetItemImage() • _GUICtrlTreeView_CreateArray() • _GUIDisable() • _GUIImageList_SetIconFromHandle() • _GUIRegisterMsg() • _GUISetIcon() • _Icon_Clear()/_Icon_Set() • _IdleTime() • _InetGet() • _InetGetGUI() • _InetGetProgress() • _IPDetails() • _IsFileOlder() • _IsGUID() • _IsHex() • _IsPalindrome() • _IsRegKey() • _IsStringRegExp() • _IsSystemDrive() • _IsUPX() • _IsValidType() • _IsWebColor() • _Language() • _Log() • _MicrosoftInternetConnectivity() • _MSDNDataType() • _PathFull/GetRelative/Split() • _PathSplitEx() • _PrintFromArray() • _ProgressSetMarquee() • _ReDim() • _RockPaperScissors()/_RockPaperScissorsLizardSpock() • _ScrollingCredits • _SelfDelete() • _SelfRename() • _SelfUpdate() • _SendTo() • _ShellAll() • _ShellFile() • _ShellFolder() • _SingletonHWID() • _SingletonPID() • _Startup() • _StringCompact() • _StringIsValid() • _StringRegExpMetaCharacters() • _StringReplaceWholeWord() • _StringStripChars() • _Temperature() • _TrialPeriod() • _UKToUSDate()/_USToUKDate() • _WinAPI_Create_CTL_CODE() • _WinAPI_CreateGUID() • _WMIDateStringToDate()/_DateToWMIDateString() • Au3 script parsing • AutoIt Search • AutoIt3 Portable • AutoIt3WrapperToPragma • AutoItWinGetTitle()/AutoItWinSetTitle() • Coding • DirToHTML5 • FileInstallr • FileReadLastChars() • GeoIP database • GUI - Only Close Button • GUI Examples • GUICtrlDeleteImage() • GUICtrlGetBkColor() • GUICtrlGetStyle() • GUIEvents • GUIGetBkColor() • Int_Parse() & Int_TryParse() • IsISBN() • LockFile() • Mapping CtrlIDs • OOP in AutoIt • ParseHeadersToSciTE() • PasswordValid • PasteBin • Posts Per Day • PreExpand • Protect Globals • Queue() • Resource Update • ResourcesEx • SciTE Jump • Settings INI • SHELLHOOK • Shunting-Yard • Signature Creator • Stack() • Stopwatch() • StringAddLF()/StringStripLF() • StringEOLToCRLF() • VSCROLL • WM_COPYDATA • More Examples... Chimaera Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) Lets not kid ourselves i will never be much more than a copy and paster, but i will struggle for hrs on things some regard as simple. Its not that im pulling myself down but im wise enough at nearly 50 to know that i have limits In time i may get a little better with arrays but i really dont understand what you have done...dont explain again its fine...ill come back and try again another day Im just saying that not everyone has the abilities. One comment i would say to all the better coders and partially in regard to the helpfile and wiki, i think sometimes the examples given are way to technical for the OP and ive seen this many times over many hundreds of posts ive read. And in the helpfile i think an issue is the providers of the detail are advanced, which often makes the detail advanced...not intentional but by the very nature of their coding level. But we all know when you are knowledgeable its hard not to get techy when explaining to someone else isnt it. Ironically they need someone of my level to say does that make sense? I know arrays are a more tech level it is just an example but there are a number of ott explanaitons i have seen thru my travels in the helpfile, that make me just ignore the section purely because i cant understand it, which then makes more repetitive questions in the forums i guess. Ive written quite a few tutorials on the web to do with the cable industry and i always try and write it for the lowest student possible Anyway back on topic thx for the help and more discussion will follow.. BrewManNH Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Age is no excuse, I'm going to be 50 in less than a month and I just started using AutoIt in November of last year. The best way to learn a language is to pick something simple you'd like to do, find examples of how to do it, and then go line by line and figure out what everything is doing. The best thing I found when I started out was the AutoIt Debugger and using it to single step through the scripts to see how it worked. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from. kylomas Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 BrewmanNH, I found chimaera's response honest, insightfull and thoughtfull. I did NOT get the impression that he was making an "excuse" for anything. It is easy to say "if I can then you should" but is this always true? kylomas Forum Rules Procedure for posting code "I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Chimaera Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 No i wasnt making any excuses, just pointing out that at nearly 50 i know my limitations @BrewmanNH An example for you I started modern jive dancing a year or so ago, now that to me is akin to breathing, i only have to see a move performed once and i can see it in my head and reproduce it with little or no effort, ive gone from begineer to advanced in under a year and i never danced before. I wish coding made that kind of sense to me i really do, but unfortunatly i have 2 left keyboards when it comes to coding. I am only doing basic stuff so not to much of a problem for anyone with questions, but im impressed with what i have achieved with CMD and now Autoit but i know a lot of it wouldnt be possible without the help of many generous people on this forum.
