czardas
czardas, I am not sure I understand what you mean by that as a recursive search is essentially down into the folder tree. Why not start in the folder above if that is what you want? Not for me personally, but yes you could go in, or out, until the path runs out. For example: say you want to find all folders 3 levels up and search inside them on a second run. You may prefer to start with a relative path, which may also change frequently on an external drive. It's the same as going up one level in a File Save dialogue. Edited June 22, 2013 by czardas operator64 ArrayWorkshop
BrewManNH
You could always use something like "......" as the starting folder and search down 3. czardas
You could always use something like "......" as the starting folder and search down 3. Exactly this. I guess the additional functionality is not really needed. It was just a thought - never mind me. Edit Although the more I think about it the more I see there may be potential use for it, depending on how it is implemented. If you are grabbing filtered items on the way out, you will get a different set of results than if you were searching inwards starting at the root directory - the trunk of the tree without the branches. I'm not sure why you would need this though. I hope it made sense. Edited June 22, 2013 by czardas operator64 ArrayWorkshop

Moderators Melba23 Posted July 3, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted July 3, 2013 New Version - 3 Jul 2013Changed: The logic for the for excluding folders from the search path. The new code acts like this:$iReturn Mode Include_List Exclude_List Exclude_Folder_List Comment applies to applies to applies to $iRecur = 0 Non-recursive search acts as _FileListToArray 0 (Files + Folders) Files+Folders Files+Folders Ignored 1 (Files only) Files only Files only Ignored 2 (Folders only) Folders only Folders only Ignored $iRecur <> 0 0 (Files + Folders) Files only Files only Folders only Searches and returns all folders unless excluded 1 (Files only) Files only Files only Folders only Searches all folders unless excluded 2 (Folders only) Folders only Folders only Ignored Searches and returns all folders unless excludedThe change is when searching recursively for files only. Previously the Exclude_Folder_List parameter was ignored and all folders were searched - in the new logic it becomes active and the specified folders (and any subfolders) are not searched. The change to the folder-only searching case is just in the text of the previously rather unclear comment - the behaviour of the UDF is unchanged. As the parameter was ignored before, this change should be non-scriptbreaking - current scripts will see no difference. New UDF, example and zip in first post. Moderators Melba23 Posted August 4, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted August 4, 2013 continyu,No - and adding one would essentially double the time taken (which is already long enough on big paths) in order to count the files before then checking to see if they match. Personally I use a marquee progress to show that something is happening while the function is running. Guest
your UDF is very important! But it turns out that i need a new requirement.I need set time limit for the function. for example in this case: $test = _RecFileListToArray("D:\", "*.exe", 1, 1, 0, 0) This function processes the output too much time. i want that after X seconds, the function will stop to processes the output and will return the unfinished output. Thank you very much!

Guest
gil900, What is the point of this request? Why on earth would you want an unfinished listing? M23 Because in my case it's better than freezing my software. In addition, this case will happen only if my software used improperly. Guest
Think about a function that supposed to return output. And to return this output, it need to use RecFileListToArray(). The point is that the function should always do this action in less than 3 seconds. if not then my function got wrong input(in this case the input is the path) and the user already aware that he may gave wrong input. Anyway my function will always return output. in case that the input is wrong, my software will act wrong anyway and it is not matter if it took 3 seconds or 200 seconds.. so i prefer that it will took 3 seconds. Moderators Melba23 Posted November 1, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted November 1, 2013 Hi,For anyone wondering how to detect a time out and who is also too lazy to read the function header, this version of the UDF sets @error to 1 and @extended to 10 if it times out - although all other error conditions take precedence if they occur.
