BrewManNH
Here's the path that gets sent to the console "C:UsersUserSkyDrive3.3.8.1 - CopyApp", other than that the folders under that are all standard for an install of AutoIt.I did a little debugging, and found that when it errors out, $asFolderFileSectionList[0][0] = 99, but after the For...Next loop, $j = 100,which tells me that it can't find $sFolderToFind in the array for some reason.I moved the folder that holds my installation of AutoIt to "C:UsersUsersSkyDriveDropbox3.3.8.1 - CopyApp" and it worked fine from there. The only difference is that it now it's in the DropBox folder under the SkyDrive folder. So, I'm not sure why it hates being in the SkyDrive folder, but has no problem being in SkyDriveDropBox folder. Moderators Melba23 Posted June 20, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted June 20, 2013 BrewManNH, Thanks for that - it confirmed what I thought might be the problem. Moderators Melba23 Posted June 20, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted June 20, 2013 BrewManNH,Basically 2 arrays which I assumed would always be the same size were in fact not in all cases! The obvious fix was to check that the index was within bounds before using it. The problem seems to have occured when listing folders and files with some empty folders because a filter had not found any files within them. The UDF tried to add files from a folder which was not in the array it was trying to access - hence the error. Now if the folder is not found the UDF does not try to add files. That is why I said I was astounded that the problem had never arisen before as there must be plenty of cases where there are empty folders on the path. I will have to look more closely at exactly what went wrong when parsing your folder tree and why it did not happen to mine, which at first glance looks very similar. I will not release a new version until I am happy that I have identifed the root cause of the problem, so that might take a while. I needed a new project anyway! Thanks for the testing. BrewManNH
The current release version has the same problem running under x86 or x64 versions of AutoIt. The version in post #284 works on both. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. Moderators Melba23 Posted June 20, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted June 20, 2013 BrewManNH,Thanks for the clarification - I was worried for a bit there! Moderators Melba23 Posted June 20, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted June 20, 2013 BrewManNH,I have the answer as to why it crashed on your system and not on anyone else's - it is all a question of numbers. The 2 arrays that I mentioned are declared as [100] - if the number of used elements reaches that value they are automatically doubled in size. I chose 100 as a initial size to prevent too many ReDim commands with small values early on in the process. On my system I have 93 and 96 entries in the 2 arrays - this leaves a few empty elements above the actual entries. So when the search of the array with the larger number of entries fails, the index is still under 100 and the corresponding element of the other array exists, although it is empty. The following code does nothing in this case so on my system the code ran without problem. As you pointed out in your post above ($asFolderFileSectionList[0][0] = 99), you had just filled the smaller array, but not yet increased it in size - the other array is always larger, so it had been already increased in size to 200 with more than 100 filled elements. Now when the search of this larger array failed, the index was over 100 and the script crashed as the corresponding element of the smaller array does not exist. It was the fact that only one of the arrays had been resized and that the search failure led to the index being over the size of the other that caused the problem. A basic AutoIt installation has many fewer folders than eithr you or me - but you were the one to have the system that met the particular count of 99 in one of the arrays. I mentioned earlier that I was surprised to see the 2 arrays with different sizes - I missed the fact that I was actually counting the filled elements (using the internal count in the [0] element) and not the actual array bounds. It was only with a deeper look at the arrays themselves that I determined why it failed in your particular case. So I am content that the fix is valid and I will release a new version tomorrow when I have done some more testing - and finished my round of golf in the morning. Moderators Melba23 Posted June 21, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted June 21, 2013 BugFix Version - 21 Jun 13Fixed: Under a very special set of circustances, the UDF would fail - if you want details then look here. The UDF now checks for this corner of the envelope situation and prevents it from crashing AutoIt.Thanks to BrewManNH who managed to find just the right combination of circumstances to trigger the problem. Moderators Melba23 Posted June 22, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted June 22, 2013 Hi,I have been asked to consider a small change to the logic in the UDF for excluding folders from the search path. The new code would act like this:$iReturn Mode Include_List Exclude_List Exclude_Folder_List Comment applies to applies to applies to $iRecur = 0 Non-recursive search acts as _FileListToArray 0 (Files + Folders) Files+Folders Files+Folders Ignored 1 (Files only) Files only Files only Ignored 2 (Folders only) Folders only Folders only Ignored $iRecur <> 0 0 (Files + Folders) Files only Files only Folders only Searches and returns all folders unless excluded 1 (Files only) Files only Files only Folders only Searches all folders unless excluded 2 (Folders only) Folders only Folders only Ignored Searches and returns all folders unless excludedFor comparison this is the current logic:$iReturn Mode Include_List Exclude_List Exclude_Folder_List Comment applies to applies to applies to $iRecur = 0 Non-recursive search acts as _FileListToArray 0 (Files + Folders) Files+Folders Files+Folders Ignored 1 (Files only) Files only Files only Ignored 2 (Folders only) Folders only Folders only Ignored $iRecur <> 0 0 (Files + Folders) Files only Files only Folders only Searches and returns all folders unless explicitly excluded 1 (Files only) Files only Files only Ignored All folders searched 2 (Folders only) Folders only Folders only Ignored All folders searched but only matching folders returnedAs you can see the main change is when searching recursively for files. Currently the Exclude_Folder_List parameter is ignored and all folders are searched - in the new logic it becomes active and the specified folders (and any subfolders) are not searched. The change to the folder searching case is just in the text of the rather unclear comment - the behaviour of the UDF is unchanged.I am happy with the proposed change as it does not affect anything I do with the UDF (always a prime consideration ) but would altering the logic cause anyone else serious problems? If so please let me know and we can look into how I might try to met all the demands. czardas
Looking at this, I'm not sure if you included the option to go up one level from the starting directory (I didn't notice such an option). Perhaps it's something to consider. Maybe you already have a method for that, in which case ignore this suggestion. BrewManNH
I like the newer way, if easy to implement, as it makes sense that if someone wants to use the "exclude folders" option in the search it shouldn't search inside the excluded folders. I'm sure this would make for a massive time savings if not searching in a folder with a lot of files and subfolders. Like doing a search for something using "C:" but not searching in the "C:Windows" folder because you know it won't be in there, or won't be where it should be if it is in there..
