I would use FileOpen with the 2 mode rather than the 1 mode parameter. 1 appends to the end of the file, 2 creates a new file, overwriting the file if it exists.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

i cant create a new file using fileopen() on windows 8.1 :(

Use the function _FileCreate() in File.au3.

Are you so sure? The following creates a 0-byte file for me:

$hFile = FileOpen("Test.fil", 1)
FileClose($hFile)
as I would have expected - and as I have used successfully with XP, Vista and Win 7. ;)

Perhaps Win 8.* is different. :huh:

In WIN10 I do this now :)

edit: argh the activity stream got me again, at least this one is only 2.5 years since last used, but still 7 years old is a good pull.  Damn you IPB.
