  10. Hi, There have been far too many occasions recently where the Mod team have been trying to determine whether a particular thread is legal and a member has posted offering help to the OP. If the Mods are concerned about a thread, please refrain from posting within it - and certainly do not offer anything at all useful - until the all-clear has been given. After this announcement has been posted, we will regard any future instances as unfriendly acts and the poster can expect to be sanctioned - you have been warned. M23

  18. Hi, You may well be getting a warning from your browser that the site SSL certificate has expired - and indeed it has. When Jon last moved server the automatic alert for certificate expiry was not carried over. He is on the case, but it may take a while to get the certificate renewed. In the meantime, nothing has changed here and the site is as secure as it ever was. Our apologies for the inconvenience - we hope things will be back to normal soon. M23

There appears to be a problem uploading .au3 files into the Downloads system. I thought it was mime type related but after some testing I'm fairly certain that it's a weird bug caused by the file extension ending with a numeric. I've reported the bug and the workaround for the time being is upload as .zip.

Since the last upgrade, several members have reported that they cannot get an editor pane when trying to post. There is nothing that can be done at the server end - it seems that this is a cache/browser issue when the editor javascript does not load. The only thing we can suggest is to clear the browser cache and restart the browser. M23

There has been a problem with the conversion of posts that contain backslashes outside of code blocks and they have been stripped out. So this: C:\Program Files\Something Will have become this: C:Program FilesSomething However anything that was using the [ code] or [ autoit] code boxes will be ok (i.e. the really important stuff) because they were processed differently during the upgrade. ; This will have been ok $var = "C:\Program Files\Something"There is no easy way to fix this aside from doing a full rollback to Saturday morning, and as the code boxes are intact I'm not going to do that. I'm going to write some scripts to look for commonly used paths that are used to fix them up, such as: C:\Program Files C:\Windows C:\Windows\System32 C:\Program Files\AutoIt C:\Program Files\AutoIt\Include

Signatures have been rebuilt but there is a bug so most bbcode still hasn't converted. In the majority of cases if you just open your signature for editing and then save it, it should be ok. Edit: I've run a script to fix up 'color' bbcode in signatures. Still have img and url to do.

    Forum Rules

We want the forum to be a pleasant place for everyone to discuss AutoIt scripting, and we also want to protect the reputation of AutoIt. So we ask you to respect these simple rules while you are here: Forum Posting 1. Do not ask for help with AutoIt scripts, post links to, or start discussion topics on the following subjects: Malware of any form - trojan, virus, keylogger, spam tool, "joke/spoof" script, etc. Bypassing of security measures - log-in and security dialogs, CAPTCHAs, anti-bot agents, software activation, etc. Automation of software/sites contrary to their EULA (see Reporting bullet below). Launching, automation or script interaction with games or game servers, regardless of the game. Running or injecting any code (in any form) intended to alter the original functionality of another process. Decompilation of AutoIt scripts or details of decompiler software. This list is non-exhaustive - the Moderating team reserve the right to close any thread that they feel is contrary to the ethos of the forum. 2. Do not post material that could be considered pornographic, violent or explicit - or express personal opinions that would not be acceptable in a civilized society. Do not post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by this site. 3. To protect this community, any files posted by you are subject to checks to ensure that they do not contain malware. This includes, but is not limited to, decompilation and reverse engineering. 4. Do not flame or insult other members - and just report the thread to a Moderator (see below) if you are so attacked. 5. Do not PM other users asking for support - that is why the forum exists, so post there instead. 6. Do not create multiple accounts - if you inadvertently created multiple accounts then contact a Moderator to close the unwanted ones. 7. Do not repost the same question if the previous thread has been locked - particularly if you merely reword the question to get around one of the prohibitions listed above. 8. Do not delete your posts, nor completely remove their content, if doing so will interrupt the flow of the thread. 9. Do not post in a thread while the Moderating team are actively trying to determine whether it is legal. The Moderation team will do their best to act in fair and reasonable manner. Sanctions will only be applied as a last resort and any action taken will be explained in the relevant thread. If moderation action is taken, you will need to acknowledge this through a dialog or you will be unable to post further in the forum. Please note that this dialog is not an agreement that the warning was justified - it is only there so that members are aware that moderation action has been taken and that they may have certain restrictions applied to their account. If you feel that you have been unfairly moderated then contact the Moderator concerned - using a PM or the "Report" button is preferable to opening a new thread (although new members may have to do this). But do be aware that the Moderation team has the final word - the rules are set out by the site owner and you are only welcome here if you respect his wishes. Signatures and Avatars There is no formal policy for the use of signatures but if a moderator thinks it is too big and/or distracting then you may be asked to tone it down. No-one likes wading through signatures that are a page high. Similarly for avatars, expect distracting flashing and animated gifs to be removed. Reporting If you feel a post needs Moderator attention, please use the "Report" button next to the post date at the top. You can then enter details of why you have reported the post - but there is no need to include the content of the post as that is done automatically. The Moderating team will be alerted to the post and will deal with it as soon as they can. If you suspect a EULA violation, do not expect the Moderating team to do all the work - please provide some evidence in the report such as a copy of (or link to) the EULA in question, as well as the section you believe has been violated. Finally, please do not enter into an argument with the original poster - that is why we have Moderators. Spam Please do not react to spam in any way other than reporting it. Multiple reports are combined by the forum software, so there is no need to announce that you have reported the spam - in fact doing so only increases the work for the Moderator who deals with it. Interacting with this website Anyone found abusing the website is subject to harsh punishment without warning. A non-exhaustive list of potential abuses include: Automated forum registration or login. Automated posting or sending messages on the forum. Automated manipulation of polls, user reputation or other forum features. Automated creation or comments on issue tracker tickets. Automated creation or editing of wiki pages. Other abuses which are either examples of excessive bandwidth usage or automation of the site. Use common sense. If you do not have common sense, don't do anything. Do not automate the forum, wiki or issue tracker in any way at all. Scripts which automatically update AutoIt such as AutoUpdateIt are acceptable as long as they are not abused and do not generate excessive bandwidth usage.

    Google Policy Violations

The irony is that I'm not entirely sure that this topic doesn't infringe on the last point of having a google trademark in the URL. I hope it means the domain name url part and not anything else ...

  44. You are responsible for the content you post on this site. Most of the site is a public forum and the private sections have only limited controls over those who can access them - this is particularly true of "Chat". So treat posting here as if you were speaking in a crowded room surrounded by strangers. Recent high-profile defamation events on other sites illustrate that there are ways in which third parties can force personal data, including contents of personal messages, to be released by site owners. Be careful - libelous/defamatory posts can and have landed members of these other sites in legal hot water. Your anonymity is not guaranteed in such situations. M23

    Keyloggers

The Forum Rules specifically mention that "keyloggers" are a prohibited subject on this forum. Of late we have had several threads locked because they have strayed (usually unwittingly) into keylogger territory. Here is a reminder of what Jon (the site owner) has set out as the basis for acceptability: "how to check for a few keys being pressed is one thing" We are not going to define "a few" in absolute terms, but if you post any code which checks for the best part of the keyboard you can be absolutely sure that you are in breach of the rules, that your thread will be locked, and that sanctions may follow. So please do not post such scripts - we do not want to be heavy-handed, but after this announcement your excuses had better be very good ones! M23

    Keyloggers

Previously when code which was (or could very easily be converted to) a keylogger has appeared on the forum I have limited my actions to deleting the code and warning the poster. I even went to the trouble to post the above announcement so there could be no doubt as to the fact that such code was not permitted here. Yesterday I had to remove code which checked the entire keyboard and lit up the pressed key on a "virtual keyboard" GUI. Note that the post above talks of "code which checks for the best part of the keyboard" - that is exactly what this code did and with the addition of a few lines it could easily have been turned into a crude, but entirely workable, keylogger. The poster is now enjoying a short holiday - and the same fate awaits anyone else who posts similar code in future. The prohibitions in the Forum rules are there to keep this forum clean and to protect the reputation of AutoIt - which is in the interests of us all. Please use your brains and do not post code which flouts the spirit, if not the exact letter, of the rules. If you do then do not complain if you are moderated and warned. M23
