Time for one of my world famous "he's being a dick when he's really not comments". Are you sure you should be (trying) to write Python code if you can't even figure out how to configure your editor? When configuring the editor is documented? Just a basic knowledge chain here.

Well, looking at how things are growing, I don't think it would ever be portable on Linux, natively. Though you could always pop a virtual box and have windows running on it, so you could start coding on "Linux" through that virtual machine. Not a lot of people are willing to take that route though as they are usually lacking on resources like memory and processor allocation.

I'm working on a Linux patch-through UDF that will allow AutoIt functions to be translated and then pass to the Linux Environment from an AutoIt program running in WINE. However, it doesn't have much features at the moment other than Run() and RunWait() However, it's not really developed right now because there really isn't a need for it. However, if a need for it does develop it wouldn't be too hard to give an almost perfect mirror of AutoIt functionality although there would be a few packages that would need to be installed on the Linux computer.

My UDFs are generally for me. If they aren't updated for a while, it means I'm not using them myself. As soon as I start using them again, they'll get updated.

Apart from it not making sense because of reasons mentioned a thousand times on these forums.

How does it work?

Lots of juryrigging and having a daemon running on the Linux side to translate the STDOUT that it receives from WINE. I'll go into more detail later.

Here's my UDF and "daemon":

UDF: https://github.com/rcmaehl/FCoFix-Softwa...er/AutoIt_UDFs/WineBridge/Wine

Daemon: https://github.com/rcmaehl/FCoFix-Software/blob/master/Linux/winebridge/winebridge

It's not very developed as I mentioned but it works.

The reason why this isn't feasible, is because AUTOIT was originally made to help automate tasks, mainly GUI related, in windows... because the average joe and most companies use a Windows Desktop environment. Most environments that include linux are usually servers, which shell and perl scripting can handle pretty much everything.

“Hello, ladies, look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped using ladies scented body wash and switched to Old Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re on a boat with the man your man could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an oyster with two tickets to that thing you love. Look again, the tickets are now diamonds. Anything is possible when your man smells like Old Spice and not a lady. I’m on a horse.”

Yes, but did you even look at my script? It allows commands to pass into bash from WB_RUN() and WB_RUNWAIT().
